Scott's 1978 Jeep CJ-7

Here is the scoop on my CJ:

When I bought this thing for $2000 in the spring of 96', it was just a body sitting on a frame (no hood or fenders). Another drivable Jeep was really what I bought (this was just extra parts). It had a set of bald 31's with no lift, 304 with a 3-speed stick and Dana 20 T-case. It was so rusted the rear of the body would hop off the frame when I would hit a bump in the road. We pop rivited in some sheet metal to hold it all together, you could not even open the tailgate! The body and frame was beyond repair, so I took the extra body and frame and started to fix them up. A word from the wise, do it right the first time. If you are going to do this make sure your frame is in good shape. I had mine sandblasted then primered and painted. Also I cleaned out the inside the best I could. Four years later the rust bug bit my frame, from the inside out. I am going to plate the frame where it needs it, then I am going to clean up another frame I have to put the body on. I had the body fixed at a shop.  They put on two new sides (another tip - if you do this don't get the sides cut to save shipping cost, it is a pain in the butt to line the panels up and more than likely they won't) They also put on two new fenders and a new windshield frame. They coated it with 94' GM dark cherry red metalic.

I had it all together by the end of 96'. I added a Bestop Supertop it the spring of 97'. Right before it was painted a new set of 32" Wild Spirits were added. I put on a 3" body lift to clear the tires (it was cheap). In the fall of 97' the 304 and 3-speed were retired and a 401 and TH400 found a new home. It was then that I slaped on a set of 33" Wild Countries. In 98' I put in a 92' Wrangler roll bar and a couple of Steel Horse seats. In 99' I added a M.O.R.E. front cage kit and tie into frame kit. I also installed a set of Revolver shackles and a Tompken tire, gas can, Hi-lift carrier. In 00' I put on some braided steel brake lines. The rear axle has the factory limited slip with one piece Moiser axles. The front axle is open.

   Upgrades as of 8-15-00

Well I kinda broke the right rear leaf spring pack in Tuttle Creek. It snowballed from there, so the Jeep is going to be rebuilt again. It will have a Wrangler frame and tub, since my frame and tub are shot. I went to Dallas in the middle of December 2000 to get the parts. It was $700 for an 87' tub and a 95' frame. The Jeep will have 3/4 ton J-20 axles with 4" springs, 2" body lift, and 36" or 37" tires. The engine, trans, and t-case will stay the same. It will also keep the Cj front clip. I might call it a YJ-7.
